# The graph

The graph draws your notes as points and your links as lines between them. It shows how your ideas connect.

## Open the graph

- Choose **Graph** in the sidebar for the whole folder.
- Open the right rail and choose **Graph** for the note you're in and its neighbours.
- On Home, the **Graph** card shows a preview. **Open the full graph** opens it.

## Use it

- Click a note to open it.
- Drag a note to move it. It stays where you leave it. **Reset pins** lets them all move freely again.
- **Search notes…** finds notes in the graph and counts the matches.
- **Auto** and **All** choose which note names the graph shows.
- **Reset** brings the zoom back.

The graph counts the notes and links it drew, and how many links point to notes that don't exist yet.

## Where it comes from

The graph is built from the Markdown files in your folder. Both kinds of link count: links in brackets and ordinary Markdown links to other notes.

If something looks out of date, choose **Rebuild**.

If the graph is empty, your folder has no Markdown notes yet. If it has notes but no lines, add links between them. See [Links and backlinks](/p/docs/links-and-backlinks).
