Privacy
Your notes are yours. Here is what that means in practice, in one page. The full policy is at niv.md/privacy.
Your notes
Your notes are Markdown files in a folder on your device. They open in any editor, with or without Niv.
If you never sign in, or never connect a folder to a Space, nothing in that folder leaves your device.
When a folder syncs with a Space, its notes are stored on Niv's servers, so your devices and the people in the Space can work on them.
Notes you keep local only, and
AGENTS.mdandCLAUDE.mdby default, are never sent to the Space. See Local-only files.
The people in a Space
The people in a Space see its notes, who else is in it, who is in which note right now, and who changed what in the history. Share a Space only with people you trust with what's in it.
Published notes
A note you publish is public: anyone with the link can read it, and search engines can find it. You can unpublish it at any time. See Publish a note.
AI
The AI chat runs the agent you installed, under your own account with its provider. What you type, and the notes it reads, go from your device to that provider, under its terms. See Set up your agent.
Your chat history stays on this device.
Your sign-in
On macOS, Niv keeps your sign-in in the macOS Keychain.
What the app tells us
The app sends Niv counts of which features get used, and reports of what went wrong. They never include your note titles, file names or text.
